Southwestern Hills is a Des Moines, Iowa neighborhood and is predominantly a residential area. This neighborhood’s houses are huge, largely built in the previous 20 years, and come in a range of designs. This is one of Des Moines’ most expensive neighborhoods. Southwestern Hills is a wonderful area to live in. Southwestern Hills is an ideal location for raising a family. For everyone’s enjoyment, Southwestern Hills offer miles of green parkways, footpaths, and several water places. Each of the four seasons brings with it a different kind of beauty, as well as the solidarity of good neighbors. Residents witness the magnificence of wildlife. Southwestern Hills is a suburb less than five miles west of Downtown Des Moines, located along the Raccoon River. The western part of the neighborhood has a lot of open space, while the eastern part has a lot of contemporary conveniences. The Des Moines International Airport is located in the southeast corner of town, and restaurants, supermarkets, and other businesses may be found along Fleur Drive, which runs along the eastern edge of town. Residents may also go a few minutes east to Downtown Des Moines to see the high-quality cafes and stores. The parks and trails that wrap along the river provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor enjoyment in town. Residential sections make up the neighborhood’s core, where tenants may find a variety of contemporary, reasonably priced flats. Park Avenue runs east-west through the northern edge, providing access to Brown’s Woods Forest Preserve and Valley Junction in West Des Moines, as well as a turnoff onto George Flagg Parkway, which leads to the heart of Water Works Park, an urban gem with vast swaths of green space and extensive walking and biking trails.  Waterworks Park is a 1,500-acre open space with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. This is an excellent location for walking, jogging, biking, and fishing. There are plenty of large open places that are ideal for ball games. Picnics are popular at Water Works Park, which is frequented by local families. Wakonda Club is a private 18-hole golf club that has been serving its members for over 80 years in a family-friendly setting. Several tennis courts are available for people to use at Harmon Park, which is located in the Southwestern Hills area. Another park in the neighborhood is Carney Park. There are numerous fields available for organized sports, with lighting for late events. There are some woodlands on the park’s far side, but it’s largely open fields for sporting activities.

The majority of the housing is located in the neighborhood’s northeastern section, next to an elementary and middle school as well as AIB College of Business. There’s a wide variety of homes and apartments, including several contemporary, good-size homes sprinkled throughout the neighborhood.  Drake University, Des Moines Area Community College Ankeny Campus, and Des Moines Area Community College Urban Campus are all within driving distance of Des Moines.
