The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden (formerly the Des Moines Botanical Center until 2013) is a 14-acre (6-hectare) botanical garden on the east bank of the Des Moines River just outside of downtown Des Moines, Iowa, United States. The conservatory houses over 1,200 taxa from around the world, which are displayed in artistic settings to explore, explain, and celebrate the wonders of the plant world. In 1929, Des Moines expressed interest in establishing a botanical center. A city greenhouse was acquired on the west side of the river in 1939, which served the city as a production and display greenhouse until the Botanical Center was completed in 1979. Des Moines Water Works managed the facility on behalf of the city from 2004 until December 31, 2012. Under the leadership of president and CEO Stephanie Jutila and the governance of the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden Board of Directors, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden became a nonprofit organization on January 2, 2013, and opened. The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden brings you indoors and out while seeing the beautifully maintained collections, with species ranging from temperate to tropical. The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is a year-round top attraction thanks to the site’s domed conservatory, which is kept consistently balmy to nurture the tropical plants housed within, despite the cold winters of the Midwest. The conservatory contains a variety of bright flowers, cactuses, and succulents, among other plants, in addition to palm trees and a waterfall. A rose garden and a water garden are among the themed gardens mixed with sculptures outside the conservatory.  At this urban botanic center, something is always in bloom. You may observe the garden’s splendor whether you’re attending an adult-education class on gardening or a nicely furnished event in the rentable venue area. Getting lost in the gardens on a self-guided tour is a popular way to visit. If you visit the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden at lunchtime, the Trellis Café, which is located within the grounds, can make your visit even more memorable. The botanical garden hosts “Botanical Blues” during the winter and a four-day Spring Garden Festival in the spring. The conservatory was described as an oasis by many visitors throughout the winter.
