The Des Moines Art Center is a museum in Des Moines, Iowa, that has a large collection of paintings, sculptures, modern art, and mixed media. It was founded in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1948. Eliel Saarinen designed the first museum wing in a blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles in 1945, and it was finished in 1948. I.M. Pei designed the second extension, which was initially meant for large-scale sculpture, in a Modernist style. Pei began work in 1966 and finished in 1968.  Richard Meier designed the third wing, which was completed in 1985. This wing was created with the goal of letting in as much natural light as possible. Since 1948, the Des Moines Art Center has been displaying fine art. This important cultural destination has grown in terms of floor area, exhibitions, and the community that surrounds it over this time. The Des Moines Arts Center has regularly shifting exhibits by local and nationally known artists. Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Francis Bacon, Georgia O’Keeffe, Gerhard Richter, Claes Oldenburg, Mary Cassatt, Auguste Rodin, Grant Wood, Deborah Butterfield, Paul Gauguin, Eva Hesse, Ronnie Landfield, Roy Lichtenstein, George Segal, Mark Rothko, John Singer Sargent, Joseph Cornell, and Takashi Murakami are among the artists represented in the permanent collection in the center’s 5,000-piece collection. Temporary exhibits, which normally last one to three months, are displayed in the main gallery. There is a rose garden as well as several outdoor sculptures in addition to the main house. The Des Moines Art Center’s grounds are also well kept and ideal for a stroll. Greenwood/Ashworth Park, which is nearby, provides an additional outdoor play area. The museum aspires to be representative in its exhibitions by accepting and recognizing the diversity among people who belong to the center’s community and all those who come through its doors. The museum wants to bring people together by presenting and embracing thought-provoking art. With collections of prints, pictures, paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, manuscripts, books, films, textiles, and more, the center has a lot to offer. Participating in one of the numerous educational programs or guided tours given by the site provides an enhanced experience of all the center has to offer, shedding light on the artists behind the work. The Art Center Café caters to creative inclinations for midday appetites. Aside from the fantastic work on exhibit, the Des Moines Art Center has a beautiful gift store, an on-site café called Tangerine that serves sandwiches, small meals, and cocktails, and art programs for people of all skill levels.
